COURSE INFORMATION:
Course participants will be introduced to key concepts and evidence regarding the evaluation and treatment of pediatric concussion. This interactive and blended-learning course will consist of four lessons with each lesson targeting one of the pivotal domains that physical therapists can tackle for our young patients after concussion. Recommended readings will set the foundation for the recorded presentations to provide the necessary foundational knowledge and tools to treat this population. Forum discussions will help address unique situations, and patient cases. Discussion will also provide an interactive learning environment for participants to engage not only with the instructor, but also with other participants with additional experiences relevant to the course content. Overall this dynamic learning environment and course will provide the physical therapist and physical therapy assistant the necessary skills to feel more prepared to work with youth after concussion.

OBJECTIVES:  By the end of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Describe the evidence surrounding evaluation and treatment of pediatric concussion
  • Perform at least one evaluation component as part of a comprehensive evaluation for a patient after concussion
  • Discuss the relevant treatment strategies pertinent to patients after sustaining a concussion
